The Jordanian police arrested a number of demonstrators and prevented them from heading towards the Israeli embassy in Amman yesterday evening, Sunday, in protest against the escalation of the Israeli aggression and starvation campaign against the Gaza Strip.

The authorities had previously deployed security forces to disperse the demonstrators who gathered at the Al-Kaloti Mosque in the capital and were planning to head towards the heavily fortified Israeli embassy, which is close to the mosque.

Reuters quoted eyewitnesses that the police fired tear gas, arrested a number of demonstrators, and beat others as they attempted to pass the tight security cordon around the embassy.

The Israeli embassy, where demonstrators gather daily, has always been a hotspot for anti-Israel protests.

Jordan is witnessing some of the largest peaceful marches across the region, with anti-Israel sentiment rising due to the ongoing Israeli massacres in the Gaza Strip.

The Jordanian authorities allow demonstrations, but they do not tolerate any attempt to storm the Israeli embassy, incite civil peace, or attempt to reach the border areas with the occupied Palestinian territories.

The authorities have arrested hundreds of activists and demonstrators on allegations of violating the law since the outbreak of war on October 7.

The aggression and starvation campaign on the Gaza Strip left tens of thousands of civilians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women. It also caused a humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Tel Aviv being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide.
