From our correspondent in Moscow,

The images of the appearance of the alleged suspects arrived very late in the evening and these images, published by official Russian agencies, are extremely violent. These four men are all physically scarred. We see bruises on the face of one, a plastic bag still left on the neck of the other. The 3rd has his head bandaged and still has blood on his forehead. This one, according to videos posted by Telegram channels reputed to be close to the security services, had his ear cut off after his arrest.

Finally, the 4th arrived on a stretcher then installed almost naked in a wheelchair in the accusation box. There too, these famous Telegram channels with sometimes two million subscribers posted videos on the very brutal events which preceded his appearance. Never seen before in Russia.

These four men currently face life imprisonment for terrorism, even though MPs in Russia today are calling for the moratorium on the death penalty to be lifted.

The responsibility of this group has still not been mentioned by the authorities. They always cite Ukrainian responsibility. The only communication from power this Sunday: the Kremlin announced that Vladimir Putin lit a candle in the chapel of his residence near Moscow.
