A man is in critical condition and has been evacuated to a Barcelona hospital this Sunday after being found half-buried in the snow,

possibly after being hit by an avalanche

, in the Girona municipality of Queralbs.

Sources from the Generalitat Firefighters have informed EFE that at 12:55 p.m. they were alerted to the presence of a person trapped in the snow, from whom he was rescued by members of the force who traveled to the zone.

The alarm was raised by a

group of hikers

who were making the route from Núria to the Coma de Vaca refuge, in Queralbs (Girona), along the Camino de los Ingenieros, and who saw the body of the man half buried in the snow in a channel.

The Bombers have then activated the helicopter with members of the Special Actions Group (GRAE) from the Olot base, who, once it has reached the place indicated by the hikers, have accessed the victim and rescued him.

The emergency personnel have verified that the man was

in a state of frostbite and that he was not responding to stimuli

, so resuscitation maneuvers have begun.

Meanwhile, a second helicopter from the rescue unit at the La Seu d'Urgell base (Lleida), in which a doctor from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) was also traveling, has joined the evacuation work.

The Firefighters indicated in a statement that, once the man was monitored, he was extracted with the crane from the helicopter and transported with this device to a parking lot in Queralbs, where he was transferred to another medicalized SEM helicopter. , with which he has been transported in critical condition to the

Bellvitge hospital

, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona).

In the area of the event, a group of firefighters assisted by sniffer dogs have inspected the place due to the possibility that there were more victims trapped in the snow, an eventuality that has been ruled out. Mossos troops have also participated in the search work.

The Meteocat meteorological service issued this Saturday a

yellow risk warning due to the risk of avalanches

in the area where the event was recorded.
