Russian cruise missile violates Polish airspace, Warsaw demands explanations

A Russian missile passed over Poland this weekend. While the country had increased its alert level on Saturday evening March 23, one of the missiles targeting the Lviv region, not far from the Polish border, deviated from its trajectory and flew over the country. The Polish army remained vigilant, and did not panic.

With our correspondent in Warsaw,

Martin Chabal

For 39 seconds, Polish

army officials

kept their eyes on their radars. Long seconds, where the Russian missile entered Poland at nearly 800 km/h, 400 meters above the heads of the Poles. But this missile was not shot down.

The operational commander of the armed forces, Maciej Klisz, explained this Sunday morning that Poland is acting in conditions of peace. And destroying this type of missile, which carries explosives, could land on a hospital or a house and kill people.

So the army followed the missile, believing, given the conditions, that it would return to Ukrainian soil. And this time she is 100% sure that it didn't crash in Poland, because two missiles

have already crashed in the country

.

Quick reaction from the government

The first time at the border, a missile fell on a farm, killing two people, but it was a Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense rocket that had gone the wrong way. And a second time, a missile crashed several hundred meters from the border in a Polish forest, without anyone knowing. It was a walker who discovered it three months later.

So this morning, the government reacted and will demand explanations from Russia for this new airspace violation.
