Smolyaninov is the author of the video that captures the first minutes of the attack.

According to the interlocutor, he came to the Picnic concert to film a video for the group. According to the man, before the shooting began, he was near the entrance, from where the terrorists later entered, and spoke with the photographer.

“What saved me was that I just decided to step back a little... to the center of the hall,” he added.

The videographer’s interlocutor died, and Smolyaninov managed to get out into the foyer and lie down on the escalator. He added that the terrorists noticed him on the escalator and opened fire.

“They shot at me... The only injury I received was when my fingers were cut off by scattered glass... And then I even did something stupid, of course. After crawling a bit, I climbed out again and started filming. There was no shock. I don’t know why,” the man recalls.

According to Smolyaninov, everyone who tried to hide behind pillars or tables probably died - there were about 30 people. The man knew one of them. Smolyaninov added that he tried to explain to people that they should not hide from machine guns behind pillars, but they were in too much shock to listen.

The video shows footage of Kirill Smolyaninov.
