The continuous Israeli bombing destroyed the Gaza Strip and forced hundreds of thousands to flee towards Rafah (Reuters)

Canadian political science professor Ghada Ajeel - like others who have relatives facing Israeli massacres in Gaza - hoped that the hope of reaching a truce or ceasefire would be achieved before the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, as stated by US President Joe Biden.

But all dreams evaporated with the continuation of the massacres, the death of more than 32 thousand people, and the injury of tens of thousands with amputations and serious injuries, not to mention the almost complete destruction of the Gaza Strip.

Ghada, a professor of political science in Canada, confirms in an article published by the Al Jazeera English website that since October 7, she and her family have been sitting in front of the screen, watching news broadcasts about the war of extermination taking place in Gaza. Perhaps they are experiencing what their families, families, and neighbors are experiencing, and know some of their news.

A martyr on earth

The writer told the story of their neighbor in Khan Yunis camp, the girl Aida, and how she decided to stay in the destroyed camp and not leave because she had an elderly father who needed special care, because he had Alzheimer’s disease and lost the ability to move.

In her article, she conveyed the astonishment of her cousin Hani - who returned to the camp to see their destroyed house - that Aida remained in the midst of all this destruction, where you could barely see anything but demolished buildings wherever you turned.

Hani continued in his blog post that Aida was not fortunate in completing her education, as she comes from a poor family, but despite that she set an example of courage and courage, and he expressed his astonishment at her ability to survive and care for her father despite the bombing and the smell of death spreading everywhere.

The writer quoted her cousin as describing Aida, saying, “That girl is the greatest, the bravest, the smartest, and the most pious. Aida is an icon... I said to myself as I controlled my steps to balance on the hills of rubble: Who among us can live up to Aida’s strength? No one. She is a martyr living on earth.” ".

A beacon of courage

The Al Jazeera English article continued that Aida chose to stand alone in a opposing front to those who chose to stand by genocide, and described her as “a beacon of courage and hope in the darkest moments.” The writer said that her mere presence exposes the barbarism of global politics and the cowardice of politicians who chose to tolerate genocide, and refuse Stop it.

The Palestinian writer mentioned that one of the painful stories she experienced was the story of the occupation forces arresting many of her relatives in Hamad Town in Khan Yunis, and they had returned to their abandoned house with the aim of recovering some items, believing that the occupation army had withdrawn from the area.

The writer said that the extent of the pain of what happened was great, as the detainees - including three of her cousins - were stripped of their clothes, and were subjected to interrogation and severe beatings before they were transferred to an unknown destination.

The tragedy did not stop there. Rather, what happened caused a child of her relatives (a 9-year-old with special needs) to have a severe seizure that the occupation soldiers did not know how to deal with, so they released him and his mother after hours of detaining them in the street, and asked her to move. And not to look behind her under the threat of death.

In her article, the writer also talked about her uncle Fathi, his wife, children, and family members who were displaced to Rafah after the Israeli army invaded Khan Yunis, and she told how they escaped certain death after the occupation bombed the Al-Masry Tower in Rafah, where they lived.

She concluded her article by saying that her uncle had worked for many years in Saudi Arabia before returning to Gaza to work as a teacher for the United Nations in a refugee camp. He posted on his Facebook account of his destroyed home, saying, “This is our beloved home that has evaporated. The fruit of 40 years of hard work and toil was annihilated by the army that claims "It's ethical."
