This Sunday, a large crowd, mainly made up of women and children, gathered in front of the offices of the Shafa Holding company, specializing in oil.
Everyone hoped to receive a donation of 5,000 naira (around 3.10 euros). This distribution of money was organized by the owner of the company to relieve families and help them buy food during this fasting period of the month of Ramadan.
But the beneficiaries, more numerous than expected, rushed to receive this aid. After this tragedy, at least five women were received in critical condition at the hospital in the town of Bauchi, located in the Kaino region.
This is the second time this week that Nigeria has been mourned by this type of accident. On Friday, two students lost their lives during a food distribution on a campus organized in the center of the country, in Nasarawa state.
Nigeria is currently facing a serious economic
crisis
and is struggling to stem poverty. Food prices have tripled in recent weeks. Inflation reached 31.7% in February, the highest rate recorded in Nigeria in 30 years.
