The Washington Post quoted a White House advisor as saying that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is unbearable, describing it as a stain on the conscience of humanity.

The American official added that the humanitarian situation in Gaza pushed the American administration to cross the line into an open confrontation with the Israelis.

The newspaper also quoted an informed source that President Joe Biden's aides were distressed by warnings of an imminent famine and reports of children dying due to malnutrition in the Gaza Strip.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child warned Thursday that every passing minute risks the death of a new child from starvation in the Gaza Strip, while the world watches.

In a statement, the Human Rights Committee renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, given that children in the northern Gaza Strip face imminent famine.

The statement noted that "Gaza's children are starving to death," and added that "food has been cut off from them, and even crumbs are not easy to find."

As of Thursday evening, 27 deaths of children due to malnutrition and dehydration had been reported in Gaza, and the UN committee suggested that the real number of deaths due to hunger is much higher than what was documented in an initial toll that is likely to rise.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip with American support, leaving tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive infrastructure destruction, which led to Tel Aviv appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide.

As a result of the war and Israeli restrictions, the residents of Gaza, especially in the Gaza and North governorates, are on the verge of famine, amid a severe scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, which has claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.
