The rate of arrest of Palestinians by the Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank has increased over the past 6 months (Anatolia)

The number of Palestinian detainees in the West Bank has risen to 7,740 since October 7, after 15 Palestinians were arrested on Friday and Saturday.

The Prisoners' Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said - in a joint statement - that the total number of arrests after October 7 rose to about 7,740.

The statement explained that this comes after the Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 15 citizens from the governorates of Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Tubas, and Nablus from Friday until Saturday morning.

The two institutions continued that the Israeli army continues to carry out widespread raids and abuse during arrest campaigns, accompanied by severe beatings and threats against detainees and their families, in addition to widespread sabotage and destruction of citizens’ homes.

Since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the army has escalated raids and arrests in the West Bank, resulting in confrontations with Palestinians that left - in addition to the detainees - 449 martyrs and about 4,750 wounded, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

This comes at a time when local Palestinian sources reported that Israeli forces were tightening their military measures on the Tayasir and Hamra military checkpoints in the northern Jordan Valley on Saturday in the West Bank.

Today, the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) quoted sources as saying that the occupation stopped the movement of vehicles through the two checkpoints and checked citizens’ ID cards, causing a vehicle crisis in front of citizens, especially those heading to the Jordan Valley.

According to the sources, the two checkpoints have been witnessing military tightening and inspections of citizens’ vehicles for months, which hinders their movement and going to work in the Jordan Valley.

In parallel, Israel is waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure and property, which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide.
