The following is the full text of the statement:

I would like to take this opportunity to personally express my gratitude to everyone for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding shown during my recovery from surgery.

It's been a really hard few months for our entire family, but I have an amazing medical team who take great care of me, and I can't be grateful enough.

I had a major abdominal surgery in London in January, my condition was thought to be non-cancerous and the surgery was successful. However, post-surgery tests revealed the presence of cancer, and my medical team recommended that I undergo a series of preventive chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.

This has certainly been a huge shock and William and I have been doing our best to process it all privately for the sake of our young family.

As you can imagine, this takes time. I needed time to recover from major surgery in order to begin my treatment. But most importantly we needed time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that suited them and reassure them that I would be fine.

As I tell them: I am in good health and I am getting stronger every day, physically, mentally, and spiritually by focusing on things that will help me heal.

Having William by my side is a huge comfort. Likewise, the love, support, and kindness shown by so many of you has meant so much to both of us.

We hope you can understand that as a family we need some time, space and privacy at this time so that I can complete my treatment. My work has always brought me deep joy and I look forward to returning, but now I have to focus on making a full recovery.

My thoughts are also with all those whose lives have been affected by cancer at this time. To everyone facing this disease, no matter what form it is, please don’t lose faith or hope. You are not alone.
