In the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine: what is known about the arrest of those involved in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall

The terrorists who participated in the shooting of people and the arson of Crocus City Hall were detained in the Bryansk region, not far from the border with Ukraine, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported.

“Special services and law enforcement agencies in the Bryansk region, not far from the border with Ukraine, detained four suspects from among those who committed a terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall. Investigators from the Investigative Committee began working with them,” the report says.

The Russian Investigative Committee also said that the inspection of the premises of the concert hall and the seizure of material evidence continues as emergency services clear the rubble, recordings from CCTV cameras are being studied, and work has begun with the victims.

“Preliminary results of the inspection of the premises of the concert hall indicate that the terrorists used automatic weapons during the attack, which, along with the ammunition they left behind, were discovered and seized by ICR investigators. Based on this material evidence, ballistic, genetic and fingerprint examinations are currently being carried out. It was also established that the terrorists used a flammable liquid to set fire to the premises of the concert hall, where there were spectators, including the wounded,” the department noted.

The Russian Investigative Committee also appealed to all eyewitnesses of the tragedy with a request to provide “all available information for a detailed reconstruction of the full picture of the events that took place.”

Shortly before this, the Kremlin announced that FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov reported to Vladimir Putin about the detention of 11 people, including all four terrorists directly involved in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. The head of state was also informed about the work of the FSB to identify the accomplice base of those who committed the terrorist attack.

Along with this, it became known that after the terrorist attack, the criminals intended to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border. They had relevant contacts on the Ukrainian side.

As Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the RT television channel, clarified, the terrorists were stopped 100 km from the border with Ukraine.

“The ghouls did not reach the Ukrainian border 100 km. To the fighters who did not let them leave, bow. We will help in any way we can. And the state should give orders, of course,” she wrote on Telegram.

Simonyan also published a video of the interrogation of one of the detainees. According to the attacker, he was promised 500 thousand rubles for participating in the shooting at Crocus - the “assistant of the preacher” whom he listened to contacted him.

Those killed in the terrorist attack

According to the latest data provided by the Russian Investigative Committee, 115 people died as a result of the terrorist attack.

“The death toll will still increase. According to preliminary data, the causes of death were gunshot wounds and poisoning from combustion products,” the report says.

“Today at 06:30, rescuers entered the hall where the most terrible events took place. Literally now I have returned from there. We see that the situation there is extremely difficult,” added Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov.

As follows from the message of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, the identities of 41 dead have been established. 121 victims were also registered: 107 of them were hospitalized, another 14 received outpatient care.

At the same time, 80 people remain in the capital’s medical institutions, of which 13 patients are in extremely serious condition, and 25 victims are in serious condition, including one child, the Moscow Department of Health reported.

“All patients underwent a full range of diagnostic and treatment measures, and medical care was provided in full. 40 patients underwent surgery. Psychological assistance is also provided to patients. All leading specialists in the fields of anesthesiology, resuscitation, traumatology and other doctors are involved in the treatment of patients in serious condition,” the statement says.

The authorities of Moscow and the Moscow region will jointly pay monetary compensation to victims in the amount of 500 thousand to 3 million rubles.

“Moscow will provide financial support to Muscovites and nonresidents. The authorities of the Moscow region will provide financial assistance to the affected residents of the region. Also, together with the Moscow region, we will take upon ourselves the organization of the funerals of the victims. We continue to provide all necessary assistance with the involvement of city services. “I express my condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

In turn, the governor of the Moscow region Andrei Vorobyov noted that children whose parents died in the terrorist attack at Crocus will receive monthly payments.
