On Saturday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for “flooding” the Gaza Strip with real, life-saving aid, stressing that the time has come for a “humanitarian” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Guterres said in a press conference held on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing adjacent to the Gaza Strip, "There are long queues of trucks waiting in Rafah, and on the other side there are people suffering from famine, and we must not surrender and do everything we can for humanity to prevail in Gaza."

He added, "I represent the majority of voices in the international community demanding a ceasefire and the entry of aid into Gaza."

He added that Israel must make a firm commitment to unrestricted access for humanitarian goods to all parts of Gaza and to the release of hostages in the Strip.

Guterres stressed that he looks forward to continuing to work with Egypt to facilitate the entry of aid, and that he deeply appreciates its full involvement in supporting the people of Gaza.

Short visit

The Secretary-General of the United Nations arrived today in Al-Arish, Egypt, adjacent to the Gaza Strip, where he inspected the wounded Palestinians in the city's hospital.

Farhan Haq, Guterres's deputy spokesman, said in a previous press conference that the Secretary-General will meet with UN humanitarian workers on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border.

Guterres will then travel to Jordan, where he will visit the facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and have a Ramadan breakfast with Palestinian refugees and United Nations employees in the capital, Amman, according to the same source.

The Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving tens of thousands of civilian casualties, most of them children and women, in addition to massive destruction, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing - for the first time - before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing "Genocide".
