  • Barcelona Colau overthrows the Budgets and leads Collboni to a question of trust

  • Catalonia ERC announces that it has also held meetings with an international mediator with the PSOE to compete with Puigdemont

"Mrs.

Colau

, your attitude has caused the blocking of three budgets of three progressive governments - the central government, the Generalitat and Barcelona City Council - that had agreements." These are the words of the mayor of Barcelona,

Jaume Collboni,

a former partner of the former activist in the City Council. In just nine days, the leader of the commons has knocked down the accounts of the Government of

Pere Aragonès

and the municipal Executive of the Catalan capital

with her party .

A double order - triple, taking into account the effects of 12-M in La Moncloa renouncing the General State Budgets - that she faces the purple formation with

Esquerra and the PSC

, natural partners since her birth.

And it does so at a key moment in Catalan politics, weeks before the regional elections and with the

Generalitat

and possible post-electoral pacts in the spotlight. In fact, Colau's maneuver to torpedo both Budgets breaks bridges with socialists and republicans and weakens Yolanda Díaz, evident by not having mediated in these two crises. The vice president

of the PSOE

and

Sumar

Executive does not and will not have control of the space in Catalonia, autonomous and with its own trajectory for years. In this sense, the call for help from the president of the Generalitat himself, Pere Aragonès, to ask that the common people support the Budgets in the Parliament was of no use. Díaz did not intervene, he gave autonomy to the Catalan party and the maneuver ended with ERC calling elections for May 12 and uncovering a serious crisis with the purple party. Also between the PSOE and Sumar for Díaz's management before

Colau

and the resulting consequences.

In a Catalan key, the battle led to an exchange of darts and strong reproaches between Aragonès and Colau, with the PSC as a stone guest. In this sense, from the Republican ranks they had the feeling that the figure of the former mayor weighed a lot in the "no" of the commons in the Parliament. Immersed in negotiations with Jaume Collboni's PSC - with whom she maintains a tense and distant personal relationship - she wanted to raise her profile with the socialists and refused to support the Government Budgets agreed between Aragonès and Salvador Illa.

Far from being intimidated by the call for 12-M, the commons carried out their second threat yesterday, overturning the Barcelona accounts agreed between the

PSC and ERC

and urging the socialist mayor of the Catalan capital to approve them through a matter of confidence. A setback, which forces the councilor to put his position at stake - although no alternative is seen due to the composition of the plenary session - if he wants to carry out the first accounts of the mandate. The coup also leaves a bad picture at the political level for the Government, with the leader of

Díaz's sister party (Colau)

trying to unseat the main socialist mayor in Sánchez's great fortress at the municipal level. And all at the doors of 12-M.

In the Consistory, the commons certified their rejection of the project together with Junts, PP and Vox. That is to say, the municipal government of Collboni had only 15 councilors in favor (of the 41 that the City Council has) and 26 against, so the accounts agreed with ERC did not prosper.

A month ago, Colau gave in and facilitated the processing of the Budgets in exchange for the Executive agreeing with the commons on a government agreement linked to the accounts and with the former mayor back in the City Council. The negotiation lasted 30 days, always with Colau's condition of once again being a protagonist in the Government of Barcelona. A connection that Collboni's PSC flatly rejected and that led to yesterday's refusal.

"Barcelona will have budgets in spring," the mayor defended himself, convinced that he will be able to push them forward automatically with the question of trust.

«Mrs. Colau, I have never seen so much irresponsibility combined in such a short time. This attitude of boycott is a serious error that only benefits the right and the extreme right and only harms citizens,"

Collboni

snapped in a forceful argument against the former mayor, the only one he directly named.

To try to overcome this crisis, the socialist mayor has already called an extraordinary plenary session for March 27 - next Wednesday, during Easter - in order to link the accounts to a question of trust. Then, a period of 30 days will open in which an alternative majority can be configured to elect a new mayor: if this majority is not configured, the accounts will be automatically approved on May 2.

This turbulent situation in the Barcelona

City Council

will have a full impact on the Catalan election campaign and the subsequent negotiations, with Salvador Illa's PSC needing the support of the commons if it wants to have a chance of becoming president of the Generalitat.
