Baba Jeh series poster (Al Jazeera)

A drama with a comedic flavor and an inspiring social plot born from psychological trauma and broken family relationships. This is exactly what the series “Baba Jah” was built on, which witnesses the second absolute starring of the star Akram Hosni after his experience last year, and the series “Maktoub Alia”, which achieved high viewership rates and raised the expectations of many regarding what Akram will present in the future.

Despite the importance of the humanitarian message presented by “Baba Jah,” the choice of Akram Hosni, who the audience is accustomed to as “a comedian,” to run in the Ramadan race in this series, is considered a bold and unexpected challenge, which doubled the audience’s surprise and, consequently, their appreciation for the nature of the content.

Father for rent

“Baba Jeh” is a 15-episode drama series. Which means that it is almost finished, and although it is adapted from a Korean movie called “Dad for Rent,” it has been Egyptianized in an intelligent way that is appropriate for the Arab reality.

The work can be described as cute and family-friendly, although it will not make you fall to the ground from excessive laughter. However, it is worth watching not only for the sake of momentary pleasure, but also because of the important and thorny messages it contains that will soon resonate with many adults and children.

The idea of the series revolves around an imbalance in the relationship between a father and his daughter, and because of this obvious imbalance that extends for years, and during one of the activities of the daughter’s school to teach children the culture of giving and dispensing with what exceeds their needs, the child announces publicly that her father is useless, and she can give him to whomever she wants, which is met with With warmth and happiness from another fatherless child, he expresses his desire to have this father.

Although this kills the hero, it also changes the course of his life 180 degrees, as he creates a page on social media platforms that advertises the “Baba Jah” service for those looking for someone to play the role of a father for a few hours and for a fee that is agreed upon. The strange thing is that the service is gaining popularity, and as the episodes continue, we get to know families, children, and sometimes elderly men in need of a father, each for a special and specific reason.

Intelligent and sensitive writing

The work essentially belongs to the comedy category, but that does not negate the sensitivity of the issue it addresses, specifically parents’ neglect of their children’s emotional and psychological needs, which results in them being exposed to many problems and in turn affects their behavior and life choices.

While some of them turn into bullies or resort to drugs, we find others tend to isolate themselves and lose self-confidence or a sense of belonging and security. Unfortunately, this enormous pain often creates a deep wound that does not heal, no matter how old you get.

The quality of the scenario contributed to the work coming out accurately, without facility or exaggeration. For his part, Khaled Marei was able to give the viewer beautiful and visually pleasing characters. He was also adept at leading the crew, which was not easy at all since the majority of them were children and teenagers experiencing acting for the first time.

Baba Jah.. very sweet, smoothly written and very delicious, and Wael Hamdy and Mohamed Ismail Amin are the writers of a very nice, sweet comedy series.. a masterpiece in all the details so far in the episodes that have been shown.. filming, directing, decorating and writing.. pic.twitter.com/ ztCcGM5DFy

Guests of honor save the day

As for the main stars, Akram Hosni lived up to the audience’s expectations of him without any increase or decrease, and he did not resort to extravagance or repetitive vulgar comedies common on social media platforms.

Despite the presence of Otaka, who is known for his humor and who had previously co-starred with Akram in other works, he was successful this time, whether in terms of performance or the ability to laugh. The same thing happened with Yasser Al-Tobji, while Mustafa Gharib was not given enough dramatic space to highlight his comedic energies other than his space. Exceptionalism, which was exploited well in the series “Apartment Works,” which is currently being shown and occupies the highest viewership ranks.

But the worst surprise was for Nisreen Amin, who the audience expected to present a comedy duet with Akram, especially since - despite her few comedic contributions - she carved her place in the hearts of the audience with the unforgettable wit she showed in the movie “Fraser Campaign” with Chico and Hisham Majed, and yet In “Baba Jeh”, she played a dull dramatic role that did not add anything to it.

Fortunately, some of the guests of honor succeeded in injecting doses of kindness and lightness and presented fun temporary duets with Akram Hosni, led, of course, by Ahmed Amin, the first partner in the series “The Will”, followed by Mahmoud Al-Bazawi, Amr Wahba, and the little girl Lavinia Nader, who outperformed many adults in her work. .

Greetings to every Egyptian woman who carries a lot.. together against Salah 🤦🏻
