, and the attempted murder. of the parish priest,

.

The Public Prosecutor's Office attributes one crime of terrorist murder, another of attempted murder, and a third of terrorist injuries. According to the indictment, "In the months prior to the attack, Assine Kanjaa had experienced a process of radicalization, assuming the most rigorous theses of Islam, which defend the incompatibility of this religion with the principles and values of other religions and the need to act to favor their elimination and that of Muslims who do not follow the precepts of their religion.

Kanjaa's attack lasted just over an hour and spread terror in Algeciras shouting "Allah is the greatest", Kanjaa killed the sexton and believed he had also ended the priest's life. Specifically, the Prosecutor's Office sentenced 25 years in prison for a crime of terrorist murder, 15 years in prison for another crime of attempted terrorist murder and 10 years for a crime of terrorist injuries.

The prosecutor recalls in his writing that on January 25, 2023, Kanjaa entered the church of San Isidro around 6:30 p.m. and scolded the person inside: "Why do you believe in a plaster?", pointing to an image of the Virgin .

"Then he picked up a Bible and slammed it against a bench. Yassine left the church around 6:45 p.m. shouting 'the world is going to end and Allah.'" He then went to his house, turned off his mobile phone, and

grabbed "a large machete

that he usually kept under his bed."

Around 7:00 p.m. he crossed paths with a man and attacked him, breaking his glasses. The victim managed to flee. Kanjaa returned to the church of San Isidro and, with a machete in hand, went to the priest, who was celebrating a mass, chased him and hit him.

After making him fall to the ground, he hit him in the back of the head with a machete and left in the direction of the church of Nuestra Señora de La Palma, which is about 200 meters away, where he entered and found the sacristan.

"Yassine went towards him and started hitting him with the machete." The victim tried to protect himself with a chair and fled in the direction of the Plaza Alta where he fell and Kanjaa "delivered two strong blows with the machete, one on the neck and another on the head, causing the injuries that caused his death."

"Yassine then went to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Europe located in the same Plaza Alta and repeatedly knocked on the door, which was closed. He then continued along Murillo Street, to the so-called Mirador del Muro. During this journey he brandished the machete. Finally He left the machete on the ground in this place and knelt, at which point he was arrested by agents of the Algeciras Local Police who had gone to the scene, alerted by the witnesses who witnessed the previous events," says the Prosecutor's Office document. .

The Public Ministry discusses the process of radicalization suffered by Kanjaa in the months before the attack and explains that the reports after his arrest showed a psychotic condition that caused delusions and a probable schizophrenic affiliation.
