Spain: Carles Puigdemont wants to run in the Catalan regional elections

Carles Puigdemont will return to

Catalonia

. This Thursday evening, barely 25 kilometers from the

Spanish

border , the former Catalan leader announced, in front of hundreds of activists, his intention to run in the Catalan elections on May 12 and to return to the country. “ 

If I obtain a parliamentary majority which nominates me as a candidate for nomination, then I will abandon exile definitively to return to the Catalan Parliament 

,” he declared in particular.

More than six years after his flight to Belgium, Carles Puigdemont hopes that

the amnesty law

, which should erase his legal troubles, will be approved by then, even if he says he is ready to run the risk of arrest.
