The change in semantics has not gone unnoticed. Russia is "in a state of war" against Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesperson admitted in an interview, published Friday March 22, after insisting on presenting the assault on Kiev, launched two years ago, as a “special operation” and rejected the use of the word “war”.

"We find ourselves in a state of war. Yes, it started as a special military operation, but as soon as this whole gang was formed, when the West participated in all this alongside Ukraine, for us, it has become a war. I am convinced of this and everyone must understand this,” said Dmitry Peskov in an interview with the media “Argoumenty I Fakty”.

Dmitry Peskov clarified that Russia could not allow a state capable of doing anything to take control of Crimea, considered an integral part of Russia by Moscow, to exist on its borders.
