A 2 euro collector's coin and a booklet in the colors of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have been given to all schoolchildren from CP to CM2 for several weeks, before the global sporting event. But since these distributions, resale announcements have multiplied on online sites.

It is an initiative estimated at 16 million euros. Four million students, from CP to CM2, will receive by June a 2-euro collector's coin, minted by the Paris Mint, and a booklet as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, an operation by the Ministry of National Education.

The goal of the operation? "To make primary school students aware of the historic event that will be the Olympic Games. This booklet will allow students and their teachers to keep track of this unprecedented event, but also to be part of a heritage and a common memory ", we explain to the ministry. But some had a different idea: resell these commemorative coins on online resale sites.

Up to 600 euros!

On these sites such as Le Bon Coin, the advertisements are multiplying and offering these coins for several hundred euros, observed our colleagues from

franceinfo

. For example, a seller offers to sell the piece for the sum of 250 euros, ensuring that this is "the price of sales concluded by those around him". On the site, it is also possible to see other pieces put on sale at 30 euros as well as 600 euros.

When questioned, the Monnaie de Paris was surprised by the resale of the model distributed in schools, to the tune of four million copies and specified, to

franceinfo

, that rarer models with "different shines and polishes"

will be produced in a few thousand copies and also put on sale during the month of June. Copies which will be more elaborate, rarer, and which will therefore have every chance of being resold at a high price.
