Regional train at Berlin Central Station: What did the Deutschlandticket bring?

Volker Wissing's (FDP) Ministry of Transport would like to know exactly whether the Germany ticket was worth it or not. This emerges from a tender from the ministry.

The federal and state governments have actually already commissioned such a study from the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV). The companies organized there operate the local transport, which you can use with the ticket for currently 49 euros per month. However, Wissing's department seems to distrust the practical figures.

The ministry justifies itself that medium-term effects cannot be “fully” recorded in this way; the aim is to continue the ticket in 2026. The ministry does not want to reveal the costs of the new investigation. Due to ongoing proceedings, “no further information on the budget can be given at this time.”

Experts estimate it to be more than two million euros. “We very much welcome the continuation of the ticket,” says Alexander Möller from the VDV, “but an additional evaluation by a third party with additional costs would not have been necessary.”
