Bolton said that Biden only sees war between Israel and Hamas (French - Archive)
The Economist magazine published an opinion article by former US National Security Advisor John Bolton, in which he stated that the most prominent presidential election candidates (current President), Democrat Joe Biden, and Republican (former President), Donald Trump, are not fit to hold the presidency.
Bolton said that opinion polls show that American voters do not want another rematch between Biden and Trump, but that is what will happen in the end.
The former National Security Advisor described the foreign policies of Biden and Trump as floundering, and accused them of being unable to distinguish between the friends of the United States and its enemies.
He also said that the president's most important responsibilities with regard to national security are to identify the risks facing the United States and the opportunities available to it, and to develop plans to thwart the threats it faces and advance its interests.
He believed that the two candidates have consistently proven their inability to carry out the above, whether due to lack of competence, declining mental capabilities, or submission to internal political pressures.
In an article published by the magazine, Bolton listed many of Biden and Trump’s mistakes in the field of foreign policy, including the latter’s threat to withdraw America from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which he kept repeating, and almost implemented at the NATO summit in 2018.
He also criticized his statements regarding American support for Ukraine during its war with Russia, and said that Trump's statement - that he can end that war within 24 hours - is illogical.
Bolton - known to be one of the hawks in the White House who was pushing for US strikes against Iran during Trump's presidency - also criticized the current president's policies regarding the war on Gaza and the resulting escalation in the Middle East.
He said that Biden only sees a war between Israel and Hamas, and does not realize, or does not want to realize, that Iran is attacking Israel on several fronts through its agents, as he put it.
It is noteworthy that Bolton served as National Security Advisor under Trump between 2018 and 2019, and as Ambassador to the United Nations between 2005 and 2006.
