According to the website of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education recently announced the registration and approval results of undergraduate majors in general colleges and universities in 2023. A total of 1,456 newly registered majors and 217 approved majors (including 160 State-controlled majors and 57 new majors outside the catalog), and 46 majors in degree award categories or years of study have been adjusted.

The majors registered, approved and adjusted this time will be included in the 2024 undergraduate enrollment plans of relevant universities.

  The Ministry of Education has further promoted the adjustment, optimization and reform of major settings, and guided and supported colleges and universities to open new majors urgently needed for national strategies and regional development.

This time, 24 new majors were added: based on serving the national strategic needs, high-power semiconductor science and engineering, biological breeding technology and other majors were set up; focusing on scientific frontiers and key technology fields, deepening the construction of "four new", setting up electronic information materials, intelligent vision Engineering, intelligent marine equipment and other majors; promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China’s excellent traditional culture, and set up Chinese classics and other majors; focus on serving the strategic needs of a healthy China, implement the deployment of building a sports power, and set up health science and technology, sports and wellness, Football and other majors.

  The Ministry of Education simultaneously released the latest version of the "Undergraduate Major Catalog of General Colleges and Universities", which includes 93 professional categories and 816 majors.

It is understood that this time, the scope of nationally controlled majors has been dynamically adjusted based on changes in economic and social development needs and professional layout, and resource survey engineering, nursing, and midwifery have been adjusted to nationally controlled majors.

  In this major establishment work, 1,719 professional points were added or adjusted. At the same time, 1,670 professional points applied for cancellation by colleges and universities were recorded. The addition, withdrawal, and adjustment of a total of 3,389 professional points were involved, the largest number in history.

In the next step, the Ministry of Education will continue to promote the dynamic adjustment of majors, cultivate national strategic talents and urgently needed talents in a targeted manner, and enhance the support and contribution of education to high-quality development.

  It is understood that in March last year, the Ministry of Education and other five departments issued the "Reform Plan for the Adjustment and Optimization of the Subject and Major Settings of General Higher Education." Since the implementation of the plan for one year, the Ministry of Education has continued to increase its efforts in adjusting the professional setting, "one province, one case" "One school, one policy" will be implemented with great care.

At present, 23 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and 94 universities affiliated to central departments have formulated implementation plans.

Based on the actual development of local industries, each province has sorted out 520 majors that are in urgent need and 223 majors with relatively low employment rates, providing an important reference for local universities to optimize the professional structure and promoting the matching of regional talent supply and demand.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education issued early warnings for the cancellation of majors that have been suspended for five years or more in colleges and universities, and piloted a major pre-declaration system to promote colleges and universities to establish and improve the mechanism for regular research and advance research on major settings to enhance the foresight and accuracy of major settings.
