This is the American company Amentum, active in the field of security and affiliated with the American Department of State and Defense.
Created in 2020, it succeeds the military company DynCorp which also worked with the two ministries and which provided training to security forces in Iraq and Afghanistan among others.
Amentum indicates on its site that it has developed a program for Africa in 2023 on behalf of the State Department.
Its presence in Somalia and Benin is displayed, but not in Libya.
However, Amentum would be based in
Libya
on a contract with the Dbeibah government and its men would be at the Maitigua military base in Tripoli, now emptied of the presence of militias.
“
Counter the Russian presence
”
Abdelhakim Bayou, presidential candidate, shares the opinion of several Libyan researchers.
He considers that “
this intense American activity in Tripoli aims to counter the Russian presence near the eastern Libyan camp
”.
For his part, Mohamed al-Mazoghi, politician, places these developments within the framework of a “
global security system which aims to distance the militias from the place of political decision
” before the installation of a new unity government. national.
The call last week by the Minister of the Interior, Imad Trabelsi, for the creation of a joint force between east and west to secure southern Libya, an area with a strong presence of Russian mercenaries, could also be part of this frame.
At the same time, the United States is increasing public and secret meetings with Libyan political and military leaders in Tripoli.
According to the American embassy's X account, its diplomats and soldiers are currently working to unify the armed groups in Tripoli.
On the Libyan side, the project to integrate the militias into the regular forces is underway.
These armed groups have already received orders to leave the capital.
