Chad: many gray areas persist at the start of the investigation into the death of opponent Yaya Dillo

In Chad, tensions are still being felt in the country, after the death of one of the fiercest opponents of the power of the Déby father and son, Yaya Dillo on February 28, during an assault by the forces of order and security at the headquarters of his party, the PSF.

The government swears so far that he was killed with weapons in his hands, while his family denounces what they describe as a summary execution and refuses to mourn, as tradition dictates, by continuing to demand of the truth.

It is in these circumstances that yesterday, the National Transitional Council of

Chad

, convened the same morning and almost half empty - around a hundred advisors were absent - voted 103 votes in favor of a resolution of support for the president Mahamat Idriss Déby, and congratulated him for “

having opened an investigation to shed light on the unfortunate events of February 27 and 28, 2024 in order to identify responsibilities

 ”.

An investigation which is still at its beginning.

Magistrates’ center

This only really began towards the end of last week, according to our sources.

The prosecutor - at the Ndjamena TGI - went, with a whole team of magistrates, to the Koro-Toro penal colony to investigate the violence which surrounded the

death of Yaya Dillo

on February 27 and 28.

Still according to our source, the president of the court was also there.

They have heard all those who are detained in connection with this case and are working on their report which will be ready within two days,

” adds this source, who specifies that “

it is at this time that "We'll know a little more

 ."

As for the “international” type investigation announced by the Prime Minister, Succès Masra, it has not yet started, according to another highly placed source.

“

We first had to know exactly what happened, before launching an international investigation

,” she justified, explaining that at this stage nothing had yet been decided or on its nature nor its composition.

“

But its principle has been established

 ,” she insisted.

Gray areas

Our sources recognize that many gray areas remain three weeks after this explosion of violence.

And, neither the government nor the Chadian justice system, no one can yet give or still wants to give with accuracy the number of people killed at the same time as the opponent Yaya Dillo, how many others are detained in Koro-Toro and above all , no light has yet been shed on the exact circumstances of the death of the Chadian opponent.
