China News Service, March 18. According to an Agence France-Presse report on the 17th, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti stated that the United States is arranging a charter flight to evacuate American citizens from Haiti.

According to reports, the emergency charter flight is expected to take off from Cap-Haitien, Haiti's second largest city, as the main airport in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince remains closed.

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti also warned that the 200-kilometer land route from Port-au-Prince to Cap-Haïtien is "quite dangerous" and that U.S. citizens should consider taking this charter flight "only if they are confident that they can reach Cap-Haïtien Airport safely."

At present, the United States has not announced an evacuation date, and it is unclear how many Americans will be able to take this flight.

According to a Reuters report on March 10, local time, the U.S. Southern Command said on the same day that the United States had withdrawn non-essential staff from the embassy in Haiti and sent more U.S. troops to protect the security of the embassy in response to the emergency faced by Haiti.

At the same time, the Canadian government announced on March 14 that it would temporarily reduce the staff of the country’s embassy in Haiti to only essential personnel.

The German ambassador to Haiti and some EU diplomats have also evacuated to Haiti's neighboring Dominican Republic.

As previously reported, starting from February 29, 2024, multiple gang organizations in Haiti attacked police stations, prisons, airports and other places in the capital, Port-au-Prince, demanding that Prime Minister Henry step down, further intensifying the unrest in Haiti.

On March 11, Ali, Chairman of the Caribbean Community and President of Guyana, stated that Haitian Prime Minister Henry had agreed to resign.

Currently, the province where Port-au-Prince is located is in a state of emergency. All passenger flights to and from Port-au-Prince are grounded, and more and more people are forced to flee their homes and become homeless.
