The document states that Russia has familiarized itself with the statement of Germany dated January 27, 2024 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad.

It confirms Germany's historical responsibility for one of the most terrible crimes against humanity committed by the Nazi regime against the peoples of the Soviet Union.

As the Russian Foreign Ministry reminds, Moscow considers the blockade of Leningrad and other brutal atrocities of the Third Reich on the territory of the USSR as acts of genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union.

“The Russian side notes the contradictory nature of the German side’s approach to the issue of officially recognizing crimes against humanity committed by Germany in the past as acts of genocide,” the ministry emphasizes.

The Russian Embassy in Germany noted that, having recognized its crimes during the era of colonialism as an act of genocide, the German side has still not done so in relation to the blockade of Leningrad and other crimes against the peoples of the USSR.

“The Russian side insists on the official recognition by the German side of these atrocities of the Third Reich as acts of genocide,” says the note, the text of which is quoted by RIA Novosti.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized, the blockade of Leningrad by the Nazis was unprecedented in terms of cruelty and cynicism.

He stressed that this is genocide and its assessment must be unshakable.
