The Generalitat has called the union representatives of prison workers this Monday at 9:00 a.m. to address the situation of the protests, to which the spokesperson for UGT Prisons, Xavier Martínez, said that they do not
plan to attend
because they see a real provocation that call them knowing that they have
demanded their resignations before sitting down to negotiate.
The Secretary General of the Department of Justice, Jordi Martinoy
, is expected to participate in the meeting on behalf of the Ministry
;
the Secretary of Administration and Public Function,
Alícia Corral
;
and the general director of Penitentiary Affairs,
José María Montero.
Sources from the Ministry have specified that other officials who did until now, such as the person in charge of Catalan prisons,
Amand Calderó
, will not participate in the meeting .
"The unions have asked for different interlocutors. Here they have a new proposal," said those same sources.
Union sources, for their part, have told Efe that they will not attend the meeting if
the Minister of Justice,
Gemma Ubasart , and
Amand Calderó
himself
do not resign first
, as they have already requested in recent days.
The call comes after the councilor stated this Sunday at a press conference that
"new blockades in access to prisons cannot be repeated"
and that she has not ruled out the intervention of the Mossos to prevent it.
These statements have been branded by the unions as a "threat" and "shame."
The conflict with officials in Catalan prisons began last Wednesday after the
murder of the cook at the Mas d'Enric penitentiary center,
in El Catllar (Tarragona), by a prisoner.
The height of the protests by prison officials occurred on Friday, with the blockade of all Catalan prisons, forcing
almost 5,000 prisoners to be confined to their cells.
Yesterday, officials maintained access cuts to three of them, affecting
some 1,200 inmates, who were unable to leave their cells
, receive scheduled weekend visits, or maintain planned communications with family and friends.
