Accident The captain observed the drama on Cerro Muriano from the shore and without intervening: "One of you is drowning there, another one there"
Nine soldiers from the 1st company of the Montejurra I/66 Battalion had to be
hospitalized for frostbite and hypothermia
after some maneuvers they were carrying out in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
As reported by the Association of Troops and Sailors (ATME), the soldiers were carrying out different training practices in snow, including sleeping in a bivouac, when the symptoms began.
The actions of the company captain prevented the number of those affected
from being more numerous
and with a more serious prognosis, since, given the forecast of extremely adverse weather and in order to ensure the safety and integrity of his personnel, he requested the head of the Battalion the change of the bivouac area and the suspension of night training.
Despite this, there were
nine affected people
who were quickly evacuated to the Hospital of Huesca and later, two of them, to the General Defense Hospital of Zaragoza.
All had symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite.
This incident occurs after the
Cerro Muriano accident
, which cost the lives of two soldiers when they were trying to do a lake crossing exercise.
These two altercations have caused the ATME to request that the military be declared a "risk profession."
