On Monday, the CDU will present a concept with which it wants to abolish citizens' money in its current form and replace it with a "new basic security".

"Friedrich Merz and Carsten Linnemann's plan is a threat to the savings of middle-class families," Green Party deputy Andreas Audretsch told SPIEGEL.

In fact, the CDU proposal states that anyone who has wealth should no longer be able to hope for solidarity in the future.

The existing waiting period of twelve months should be removed.

From the first day of basic security there would be an asset check.

In addition, the limits for protective assets should be lowered.

Green politician Audretsch criticizes that this is "above all a blow against the self-employed, against people who dare to do something and move the country forward."

According to the CDU's wishes, anyone who only needs to bridge a two-month gap, for example because an order has been cancelled, should have to cancel their retirement provision or even move.

“No money for food or clothing”

There is also criticism of the considerations for dealing with total objectors.

If a basic security recipient who is able to work “refuses work that is reasonable for him without any objective reason,” it will be assumed in the future “that he is not in need,” says the CDU concept.

“Parents permanently cutting off 100 percent of the necessities of life means families have no money for food or clothing,” says Green politician Audretsch.

"Friedrich Merz and Carsten Linnemann have completely lost their temper." The Greens' goal, on the other hand, is to get people back to work as quickly as possible.

Work should be more worthwhile.

This includes a higher minimum wage.
