The European Union adopts human rights sanctions against 30 individuals and entities responsible for the

death of Alexei Navalny

.

The foreign ministers also condemned the holding of the “

so-called presidential election

” in the Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by

Russia

, in Crimea and in the four oblasts of eastern Ukraine, including Luhansk and Donetsk.

Above all, the ministers validated this Monday March 18 an envelope of 5 billion additional euros for military support to Ukraine, and gave the green light to the head of diplomacy

Josep Borrell

to prepare, between now and the European summit on Thursday, a proposal to use the income from Russian assets that have been frozen in Europe.

The Europeans are also preparing a 14th set of sanctions following the one that was symbolically adopted for the second anniversary of the Russian invasion, and Latvia is,

for

example, proposing to add Russian manganese to the list of raw materials. prohibited for import into the European Union.

But the foreign ministers also looked at the Middle East and are now considering, under the leadership of Mr. Borrell, sanctions not only against Hamas, but also against extremist and violent Israeli settlers in the West Bank. .

This aspect has been under debate since January within the EU.

I hope everyone will agree to impose sanctions on both Hamas and the violent settlers who harass Palestinians in the West Bank.

Before the war, Gaza was the largest open-air prison.

Today it is the largest open-air cemetery, a cemetery for tens of thousands of people and also a cemetery for many of the most important principles of humanitarian law.

And I see public opinion becoming more and more concerned and demanding action, saying that Europeans cannot sit back and watch Palestinians die of hunger.
