Dozens of young men attacked two police stations in a suburb of the capital, Paris, using fireworks and Molotov cocktails, late Sunday evening, in response to the killing of a young man during a police chase, according to local reports.

BFM TV and Le Parisien newspaper reported that the attack on the police station in the northern Paris suburb of La Courneuve caused garbage bins to set on fire.

Police forces were called from neighboring areas to intervene and break up the clashes, and 6 people were arrested.

Last Wednesday evening, a police car hit a young man who was riding a motorcycle in the Aubervilliers area, northeast of the capital, leaving him fatally injured.

The young man and his companion initially ignored the police patrol charged with regulating traffic, and then crossed the red traffic light, while the police car chased them.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the motorcyclist tried to overtake a car in front of him, and ended up in a head-on collision with a police car that was heading towards them after it was called to provide support.

The officers indicated that they were forced to move sideways to avoid the taxi, which led to them colliding with the motorcycle.

The 18-year-old's relatives accuse the police of intentionality, but the Metropolitan Police Chief sees no reason to dispute the officers' story yet.
