An owner of two dogs who did not pick up the excrement of his four-legged companions, in the town of Pont-Sainte-Maxence in Oise, had the unpleasant surprise of receiving a fine of 537 euros.

The mayor of the town applied a provision of the penal code, plus a share of “revenue” covering cleaning costs.

In the city, it is sometimes essential to know how to dodge dog droppings when walking on the sidewalks.

This is what the mayor of Pont-Sainte-Maxence wants to avoid, who imposed a fine of 537 euros on an owner of two dogs, guilty of not having picked up the droppings of his four-legged companions on Saturday March 9.

A fine "not harsh enough" according to Jean-Luc, owner of six dogs in Charente, and who gave his opinion this Monday on the show

The mayor (DVD) of the commune, Arnaud Dumontier, also indicated on Europe 1 that his constituents were in favor of this "repressive measure" because "it is unbearable for everyone, for my agents, the families, the children who cannot go into public spaces and who end up with their shoes in the m****".

For this total sanction of 537 euros, the councilor specifies that it involves two fines of 135 euros, for "two large molossoid type dogs", then 267 euros in cleaning costs.

It is in fact prohibited to leave droppings on public roads, sidewalks, public green spaces and children's play areas.

Only gutters are authorized, if not at the level of a pedestrian crossing.

A fine of 135 euros in the event of flagrante delicto

Dog owners who leave excrement on public roads face a fine of 135 euros if they are caught in the act, indicate public services referring to the penal code.

This was the case in our example of Pont-Sainte-Maxence: the surveillance cameras spotted the culprit, already questioned by the municipal police several weeks ago for non-collection, underlined the mayor.

In addition, Arnaud Dumontier added 267 euros in cleaning costs to the fine, as revenue.

A sum which here includes the intervention of "the town hall staff, the vehicle, the equipment and the working time", he explained in the show

The amount of the fine can therefore vary depending on the municipality, the latter being responsible for “public health”.

Some take specific orders, like Bergerac which drastically increased the amount of the fine to 750 euros.
