South Korea: ten years later after the Sewol tragedy, the families of the victims demonstrate

Ten years after the tragedy, the families of the victims of the Sewol

sinking

continue to demonstrate in South Korea.

A large march across the country was organized to commemorate the 308 victims of the sinking of the ferry which was carrying students on a school trip.

The families of the missing are still calling for transparency in an investigation which still has dark sides.

Sewol

sinking finally arrived in downtown Seoul.

Some, like Myung Soo, a supporter of the cause, joined the group along the way.

I'm from Daegu, so I joined the march going to Gumi and up here.

» Gathered on the main boulevard of the capital, they demand answers from the government.

We still wonder what happened on April 16, 2014. Why help didn’t arrive in time.

It's been ten years, but we still don't know the truth.

Park Geun-hye

in 2017. A story which now resonates with the tragedy of the

deadly stampede in Itaewon in 2022

which left 159 dead.

It's the same as in Itaewon, nothing was resolved and those responsible were not punished.

Proof of the sensitivity of the subject, a documentary on the drama produced by the national channel KBS was canceled so as not to disrupt the elections, according to the government.
