Kuwait

- Many stories and difficult situations were conveyed by the Kuwaiti medical team, which was able to enter the Gaza Strip on March 8 for 3 days, during which it performed 23 surgical operations on sick and wounded Palestinians in the “Kuwait Specialist” and “Gaza European” hospitals.

The Kuwaiti medical team returned to Kuwait last Monday evening, bringing with them difficult memories that recount the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip.

The team, which was headed by the Director of the Operations Sector at the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Dr. Musaed Al-Enezi, included orthopedic surgeon consultant Dr. Hussein Qwaiyan, urology consultant Dr. Faisal Al-Hajri, anesthesia consultant Dr. Muhammad Shamsah, and surgical consultant Dr. Muhammad Jamal.

Medical assistance

The medical team succeeded in saving the lives of a group of injured people by providing the necessary treatment and surgical interventions - according to available capabilities - in the Gaza European and Kuwait Specialized Hospitals.

Dr. Musaed Al-Enezi explained that the medical team entered the Gaza Strip through the Rafah land crossing in order to provide a helping hand to the Palestinian brothers and support the Palestinian medical personnel in Gaza. It is the first team composed of Kuwaiti doctors to arrive in the Strip since the start of the Israeli aggression.

He added that the entry was carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities in Egypt, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Palestinian Red Crescent, and the Rahma Association around the world, and that the team’s mission focused on assisting medical personnel in Palestinian hospitals and performing 23 surgical operations for critically ill and injured cases.

Al-Enezi told Al-Jazeera Net, "The team brought medical aid, materials, equipment, and supplies into the Gaza Strip to support the health system in hospitals," explaining that there is an upcoming plan for volunteer medical teams from Kuwait and other countries to stand by the Palestinian people, and to help the medical sector in Gaza, which suffers from a shortage. Tremendous in Palestinian equipment, devices, medicines and medical teams.

A collapsed system

As for the urology consultant, Dr. Faisal Al-Hajri, he said in his speech to Al-Jazeera Net, “During my time in the Gaza Strip, I provided treatment for about 50 medical cases, all of which required surgical intervention due to weak capabilities, the collapse of the health system and infrastructure, and the accumulation of people in the Rafah area, and hospitals are unable to provide treatment.” Work, as Kuwait Specialized Hospital provides urology surgery services to all those affected due to the damage to other hospitals and the interruption of service there.”

Faisal Al-Hajri stressed that the Gaza Strip needs great aid, especially in the collapsed medical field.

The courage of the people of Gaza

The surgical consultant, Dr. Muhammad Jamal, carries with him many painful tales and stories about what the “proud people of Gaza” are exposed to.

Jamal recounts the story of the medical team since its entry into the Gaza Strip, saying, “Our decision to go to the Gaza Strip was not easy. We knew that we were heading to the most difficult war zone in the modern era, but we gained courage from the steadfastness of the people of the Gaza Strip, and we did not hesitate to go when possible means were prepared for that.” ".

He added, "We delivered a lot of medical materials and equipment that hospitals inside the Gaza Strip needed. The situation was very catastrophic, and on the first night we could not sleep, not for fear, but from the sound of weapons and the intense bombing of aircraft that was shaking everywhere."

Jamal told Al Jazeera Net, "The health situation was catastrophic. The European hospital in which we worked was gathering around 30,000 people from the Gaza Strip who had been displaced from their areas, and there were many tents for the displaced. There is no medical health system, and doctors have been working for about 160 days without... "Stop and get nothing in return."

He narrated how one of the nurses working at the hospital came in a difficult psychological state, having lost contact with his family in northern Gaza two months ago, saying, "Everyone has other heartbreaking stories."

The specialist noted the use of prohibited weapons by the Israeli occupation army. An operation was performed on a young man from Gaza. The bullet penetrated his right thigh and headed to his left thigh. The right thigh suffered a semi-cut, forcing him to cut off the leg. He said, “We later discovered the use of a bullet called a butterfly, which enters the body and turns into a Circular to inflict the greatest amount of harm on the injured person so that he remains disabled for the rest of his life if he does not lose his life.”

Dr. Muhammad Jamal believes that the visit of the Kuwaiti medical team to Gaza had a great psychological impact on the people, and about that he says, “I believe that our visit provided psychological support to the Palestinian people in Gaza, at a time when they feel that the world has forgotten them, and the delegations’ going to Gaza makes them feel cared about.” ".

He sent a message to the people of Gaza, saying, "Most Arab and Islamic peoples long to go to Gaza and provide them with the necessary support if the means are available to them."

Encouraging medical teams

Consultant orthopedic surgeon Dr. Hussein Al-Quwaian Al-Mutairi summarized the situation in the Gaza Strip as catastrophic. The Strip is afflicted in every sense of the word, the situation is tragic, the infrastructure is completely destroyed, people are wandering in the streets due to a lack of food supplies, and they are exposed to a fierce and unjust campaign from the Israeli occupation.

Regarding his field visit with his colleagues in the Kuwaiti medical team to the Gaza Strip, Al-Quwaian said, “Praise be to God who facilitated our entry into the Strip, and we were able to perform 23 surgical operations, accompanied by the team providing relief materials to the people of the Strip. Our visit had a great moral impact, as we had some brothers with us.” Arabs hold European and American nationalities.

Al-Quwaian mentioned that there are some cases that he will not forget, including the case of a young man who was injured by a gunshot wound to the abdomen that came out of his back, and who had lacerations in the liver, pancreas, and stomach. He explained, “My colleague Dr. Muhammad Jamal was able to deal with the case, stop the internal bleeding, and save the patient’s life, and many other cases.” ".

He added to Al Jazeera Net, "As a Kuwaiti medical team, we did what we could to provide some treatment and medical aid, but no team or organization can meet the needs and demands, and our going will encourage other teams to go to the Gaza Strip to complete the journey that we began in providing relief and succor to our proud, afflicted people." in Gaza".

It is noteworthy that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society announced on the eighth of March this year the entry of a Kuwaiti medical delegation affiliated with the Society, which is the first entry of its kind into the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on the seventh of last October.
