International relief organizations sound the alarm due to the tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza (Anatolia)

An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that one Palestinian was martyred and others were injured as a result of a stampede to obtain aid dropped by aircraft in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, while international relief organizations continue to sound the alarm due to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the besieged Strip.

This coincides with the worsening features of the humanitarian crisis in the northern Gaza Strip, in light of the severe shortage of basic materials as a result of Israel preventing the entry of food aid.

With the markets in the northern Gaza Strip devoid of the most basic necessities, warnings are escalating of a real famine lurking among the population.

Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagin, described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as beyond catastrophic, and said that civilians are facing an unprecedented level of humiliation, misery and suffering in Gaza.

Chapagin added that the health situation is on the verge of collapse, with hospitals facing desperate conditions, and stated that the escalating food crisis is worsening in an extremely dangerous situation.

He pointed out that countless people do not have anything to break their fast during the month of Ramadan, explaining that the plight of the hostages represents a serious humanitarian concern, calling for the necessity of their release.

Malnutrition

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that one in three children under two years of age in northern Gaza suffers from malnutrition.

The agency added on the “X” platform that malnutrition is spreading rapidly among children, and that it is reaching unprecedented levels in Gaza, stressing that famine is looming on the horizon.

In #Gaza, @UNRWA teams work tirelessly & in extremely challenging conditions to help families in dire need.

The situation is catastrophic & deteriorates by the minute.

Safe, unimpeded & sustained access across the #GazaStrip is needed NOW.

For his part, UNRWA media advisor Adnan Abu Hasna said that the aid dropped from the air is not sufficient for the residents of the Gaza Strip, and does not reach all those in need.

Abu Hasna added that most of the basic materials for life are missing in the Strip, and that all residents of the north drink polluted water.

In a parallel context, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo called on Israel to urgently provide humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.

De Croo added - during his meeting with UNRWA Director Philippe Lazzarini - that the starvation policy adopted by Israel is unacceptable, and that his country will continue to provide support to the agency as it is the backbone in providing aid to the people of Gaza.
