“Since we are Russian speakers, a child in kindergarten would very quickly be brainwashed and made a Nazi,” she said.

When the Russian Armed Forces arrived in Avdeevka, the family at first did not understand whose fighters they were, but when they found out, they experienced great relief.

“It was an indescribable joy, a relief that we would finally, little by little, have a peaceful life,” says Polina.
