Under the identity of

Darwin Grover

, a 28-year-old young man of Peruvian origin has earned the nickname 'jet set scammer' or 'rich man's scammer' and has accumulated more than a dozen complaints from different parts of Spain for scamming to luxury hospitality establishments and people with high purchasing power.

After leaving a trail of victims, mainly in Madrid and Barcelona, he ended up in Galicia and this week he was arrested for a scam in a hotel in the town of

Outeiro de Rei

(Lugo), although the judge finally released him.

Police sources have confirmed that this young man had in force prison entry and search requirements issued by a dozen Spanish courts and was arrested late in the afternoon of last Monday, March 11, in Outeiro de Rei.

It is now, at least, his tenth arrest, according to the information to which this newspaper has had access.

In this tenth arrest, the National Police of Lugo detained him in a hotel where he had been staying for several days, since the previous Friday, following a usual modus operandi for this suspect.

As investigators have been able to determine, he often uses false identities of professionals with high purchasing power to stay in hospitality establishments.

He usually stays alone and, after staying for several days, leaves without paying or making simulated or false transfers.

Also on this occasion he stayed alone and explained that he was on a work trip, but alarms about his presence in Lugo went off through the police databases that oblige all accommodations to report the identities of the guests staying at the establishment. .

The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Madrid, upon detecting that he was in Outeiro de Rei, alerted the National Police of Lugo and proceeded to arrest him, which he did not resist.

The arrest was, on this occasion, for the crimes of fraud, misappropriation and theft attributed to him by the courts that had issued an arrest warrant for him.

In this establishment, he did not commit any crime, but it is suspected that he intended to leave again without paying for the stay, the cost of which already amounted to about a thousand euros.

When he was arrested, he had not paid the bill.

The reservation was not in his name, but in that of his father, a ruse already used in the past, and supposedly he had paid with a transfer that would become effective days later.

As usual, he posed as a businessman, in this case, from a Canadian company in the mining sector, and justified that he spent a lot of time inside the accommodation because he teleworked.

This way of acting reminds investigators of previous complaints from the capital of Spain, for actions in the Madrid neighborhoods of Chamberí, Chamartín or El Retiro, but also in Barcelona, with alleged actions in Passeig de Gràcia or Sitges, and in La Rioja or Andalusia, since it is common for him to move around the country enjoying a standard of living that he cannot afford or that, at least, he does not pay for.

Despite these dozen prior judicial requests, the Investigative Court number 3 of Lugo, before which he was brought to trial for this latest arrest, decided to release him as an investigator.

According to

La Voz de Galicia

, Darwin Grover admitted the facts and, as he does every time he is arrested, justified his behavior by alleging a psychological problem.

Thus, he is justified in a supposed 'mythomania', according to which he creates a life far from reality, to magnify his figure.

It is already the argument used in the past in Catalonia, where, as on this occasion, he was very educated and appealed to this disorder to justify his fable to relate to the upper classes.

This 'jet scammer' has been in Spain for more than two years - at least since October 2021 - and has not been known to have any work that justifies income to pay for these stays in hotel establishments.

During this time he has interacted with upper-class people whom he made think that he had the same comfortable economic situation as them.

It is not unusual for me to drive vehicles like Lamborghini or Tesla and to wear brands like Ralph Lauren or Pedro del Hierro.

Between October 2021 and March 2023 alone, he accumulated nine arrests.

The National Police and the Civil Guard arrested him at least seven times in Madrid and there are records of five complaints in Barcelona.

In this last city he allegedly defrauded 300,000 euros.

His previous arrests were, fundamentally, for fraud, although also for document falsification and he has also been arrested for a crime against road safety.
