The US Central Command said that the Ansar Allah Houthi group launched a ballistic missile yesterday, Tuesday, towards the destroyer Laboon in the Red Sea, and announced that two drones were intercepted and destroyed.

The command explained in a statement on Wednesday that the ballistic missile was launched from an area controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, and targeted the destroyer "Laboon", but did not hit it and there were no material or human losses.

The command added that "its forces, in cooperation with a coalition ship, succeeded in clashing with two drones launched from an area controlled by the Houthis in Yemen and destroying them."

The command statement considered that the two planes posed “an imminent threat to commercial ships and US Navy ships.”

In solidarity with Gaza, which is facing a devastating Israeli aggression with American support, the Houthis have been targeting, with missiles and drones, Israeli or related cargo ships in the Red Sea since last November, stressing their determination to continue their operations until the end of the war on the Strip.

Since the beginning of this year, the Washington-led coalition has launched raids that it says target Houthi sites in various regions of Yemen, in response to its attacks in the Red Sea, which was met with a response from the group from time to time.

With the intervention of Washington and London and the tension taking a noticeable escalation trend last January, the Houthis announced that they now considered all American and British ships among their military targets.
