The deputies spoke in favor of the bilateral agreement signed a few days ago between Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky.

The agreement provides for enhanced cooperation between France and Ukraine for the coming years.

But France's support for kyiv's candidacy to enter the European Union poses a problem for certain elected officials.

A new envelope for kyiv and a strengthening of ties with Paris: the National Assembly voted this Tuesday in favor of the agreement between France and Ukraine.

This Wednesday, it will be the turn of the Senators to vote on this text signed by Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky.

This agreement is concluded for a period of ten years and will only be in force as long as Ukraine remains outside NATO.

The objective of the text is to intensify bilateral cooperation over the long term.

First by financial aid of 3 billion euros in support over the year 2024, but also by a strengthening of military aid and commitments to send equipment, ammunition and humanitarian assistance.

French support for Ukraine's bid to join the EU

The text still provides for severe sanctions against several sectors of the Russian economy if the conflict continues.

On the other hand, not a single line on the potential sending of ground troops, despite Emmanuel Macron's recent comments.

But what really poses a problem is the commitment written in black and white in the text to support Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

Since the start of the conflict in 2022, France's military aid to Ukraine has amounted to 3.8 billion euros.
