Sudan: the army demands the resumption of the headquarters of the national radio and television

General al-Burhan's forces claimed this Tuesday to have recaptured the headquarters of Sudanese Radio and Television.

It had been in the hands of the FSR paramilitaries since the start of the war last April.

The building located in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital Khartoum, is said to have been conquered after a fierce battle.

According to a journalist on site, the battle to take over radio and television would have been one of the most violent since the start of the war.

The victorious soldiers also posted videos online of numerous charred bodies and vehicles of the paramilitaries.

For the forces of General

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan

, the victory was initially symbolic because it involved the capture of a building known to all, held by the FSR since the start of the war.

Here, the building contains precious sound and video archives, sometimes more than a century old.

A few days ago, the Sudanese journalists' union was also concerned about their preservation.

It is not yet known whether they were saved.

The area was also used as a prison.

According to a resident whose cousin had been arrested, the RSF detained employees of radio and television and other media, businessmen, civil servants and even soldiers there.

Again, their fate is unknown.

This victory comes after the army had launched an offensive on Omdurman since the end of December, gradually nibbling territory.

This city is a lung.

This is where large companies, company headquarters and big banks are located

,” says a resident who fled the country.
