He called the message sent to Russian border guards primarily a letter of gratitude.

“The date indicated in this letter is August 1, 2024.

It is from this day that Russian border guards will stop serving at Zvartnots airport.

This is a working process, not a political process,” Pashinyan said at a press conference.

He is quoted by TASS.

On February 27, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan expressed the opinion that Russia should withdraw its border guards from Zvartnots International Airport.

According to him, Armenian forces are capable of defending their borders themselves.

Later, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had received a notification from Armenia to stop the work of Russian border guards at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport.
