According to the United Nations, the tomato crop grows in a period ranging from 90 to 150 days, and grows at an average daily temperature between 18 to 25 degrees Celsius during the day, and between 10 to 20 degrees at night.

Frequent light irrigation improves fruit size, shape, juiciness and color, but in return reduces total solids (dry matter content) and acid content.

A decrease in solids reduces the quality of the fruit, and when choosing irrigation practices, the type of final product required must be taken into account, as a prolonged lack of water leads to cracking of the fruit.
