DRC: Félix Tshisekedi would be ready to meet Paul Kagame, under certain conditions

Will a meeting between Paul Kagame and Félix Tshisekedi take place soon to try to resolve the crisis between the two countries?

Monday March 11, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Relations, Téte António announced that the Rwandan president would “

agree

” to meet his Congolese counterpart on a date to be indicated by the mediator.

The statement was made following a meeting in Luanda between

Paul Kagame

and

Joao Lourenço

, the African Union mediator in this matter.

On the Kinshasa side, we seem ready to participate in such a meeting, but on several conditions.

This is what Félix Tshisekedi's entourage explains, recalling these conditions, already formulated in the past.

First, the immediate withdrawal of Rwandan troops and their equipment from eastern DRC, in accordance with repeated calls from the international community.

This is the first point and the most important for Kinshasa.

A new meeting between the two men in preparation

Then, the Congolese president demands

the withdrawal of the M23

from the territories it recently conquered.

How does Kigali view these conditions, which are not new?

Impossible to say at the moment.

The Rwandan presidency only indicated on Tuesday on the networks that the Angolan and Rwandan heads of state had “

agreed on the key measures to be taken to tackle the root causes of the conflict

”.

A month after the failure of their last exchange, a new meeting between the two men is clearly in preparation.

And the Congolese authorities make no secret of it.

They would like the African Union to participate more actively in resolving the conflict.

This is undoubtedly why Félix Tshisekedi spoke on Tuesday by telephone with the Mauritanian head of state Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, current president of the African Union.
