“During the clashes, a police officer fired a single shot towards a suspect who was threatening the police by firing fireworks in their direction,” according to the press release.

“The suspect was apprehended and transferred to hospital” but died of his injuries, police added.

It was the second consecutive evening of clashes in this refugee camp, according to the border police, who had deployed units there.

The Shuafat refugee camp, located in East Jerusalem, part of the city occupied by Israel since 1967, is regularly the scene of violence and tensions.

This is the first death in clashes with police in Jerusalem since the start of Ramadan on Monday.
