Volodin noted that in 2016, the UN declared Assange’s imprisonment illegal.

“His extradition would be a flagrant violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, including the right to freedom of speech.

If Assange’s deportation to the United States does occur, the countries that supported it will cease to exist as legal states,” he added.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the persecution of Assange a disgrace to Western democracy.
