Tiantian Study "I am very honored to report to the General Secretary on the situation in our village." Talking about the exchange with General Secretary Xi Jinping, Wu Huifang, deputy to the National People's Congress and secretary of the Party Committee of Yonglian Village, Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province, was very excited.

On March 5, at the deliberation site of the Jiangsu delegation, he told the General Secretary the story of Yonglian Village building a village of common prosperity and happiness.

Listening to Wu Huifang's detailed introduction to the situation in the village, the general secretary smiled and said to him: "You are the pioneers in taking the road of rural revitalization of common prosperity, and you must blaze this path. We must continue to promote common prosperity and follow the path of Chinese-style modernization. "

Yonglian Village is called the "Legendary Village" by many people and has a history of "counterattack" that spans half a century.

This small village is located on the bank of the Yangtze River and in the east of Zhangjiagang City. It was reclaimed from the tidal flats in the 1970s. It was once the smallest village in Zhangjiagang City with the smallest population and the most backward economy.

In 1978, the per capita annual income of villagers in Yonglian Village was 68 yuan, but the village collective's debt was as high as more than 60,000 yuan.

  How to change this situation?

From 1978 to 1983, Wu Dongcai, the first secretary of Yonglian Village, led the cadres and the masses to work hard and earn the village's "first pot of gold" by developing fisheries and opening small processing plants.

Not only did Yonglian Village pay off its debts in one fell swoop, the village collective also saved more than 200,000 yuan.

In the 1980s, township and village enterprises sprung up in China's vast rural areas.

Yonglian Village also decided to take a bigger step and set up a steel rolling mill in the village.

But this bold idea did not gain support.

If you can't get a license, you will borrow a ship to go to sea, if you are short of funds, you will seek a joint venture, if you don't have the technology, you will go out to "learn experience"... Four months later, the Yonglian Steel Rolling Mill, which raised more than 300,000 yuan, was officially put into operation.

At that time, steel bars and other raw materials were in short supply, and Yonglian Village became a well-known wealthy village.

However, the outbreak of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 put the steel rolling mills in trouble.

The market is upside down. The price of steel billets is higher than that of steel products. The more you roll, the more you lose.

Wu Dongcai decided to make a desperate move and launched a steelmaking project to seek a breakthrough in the upstream of the industrial chain.

From foundation laying to steel tapping, Yonglian people only spent 341 days.

From steel rolling to steelmaking, Yonggang not only ended the history of "looking for rice to make the pot", but also realized a leap from a single steel rolling mill to a combined steel enterprise.

In just one year, the company's assets increased from 1.6 billion yuan to 4 billion yuan.

In 2002, Yonggang Group completed its third joint-stock reform.

Faced with many people's suggestions that "reform must be thorough", Wu Dongcai once again made a unique decision-to engage in "village-enterprise integration" and leave 25% of the shares to the village.

Later facts proved that it was the retained 25% of the shares that led Yonglian Village to embark on a joint development path of village and enterprise with Yonglian characteristics.

In September 2005, Wu Huifang, who had been an outstanding soldier, took off her military uniform, gave up the superior living conditions in big cities, and chose to choose her own career and return to her hometown of Yonglian Village, becoming the new leader of Yonglian Village.

After comprehensive and meticulous investigation and research, Wu Huifang took the lead in formulating a blueprint for the construction of a modern new countryside in Yonglian Village.

The year after returning to the village, he led the cadres and the masses to launch the construction of a modern town that lasted 7 years and invested 4 billion yuan. Tens of thousands of villagers scattered in the fields realized centralized living.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, various undertakings in Yonglian Village have developed rapidly.

In 2023, the village's total industrial and agricultural income will be 161.6 billion yuan, the village's collective operating income will be 335 million yuan, and the per capita net income of villagers will be 73,000 yuan.

Yonglian Village closely relies on the broad masses of villagers and has embarked on a development path of "leading industrialization to promote urbanization and then realizing the basic modernization of agriculture and rural areas". It has become the vanguard of rural revitalization and has also forged a path towards common prosperity. new road.
