Meloni expressed her pride after Marsilio was re-elected in the Abruzzo region (social networking sites)

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's far-right allies achieved an electoral victory in the central region of Abruzzo, a week after they narrowly lost to the opposition in Sardinia.

The results published today, Monday, after counting most of the votes, showed that Marco Marcilio, the outgoing president of the Abruzzo region and the candidate of the “Brothers of Italy” party (Fratello d’Italia), Luciano D’Amico, won over the opposition candidate supported by the opposition Democratic Party (centre-left) and the 5-Star Movement, by a percentage. 53.5% versus 46.5% of the votes.

Meloni posted on her account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) a tweet in which she praised Marsilio’s victory as the first president in the history of the region to be re-elected, and said that this was a source of great pride for her.

The current Prime Minister came to power in October 2022.

In 2019, the current president of the Abruzzo region became the first regional president of the Brothers of Italy party.

During the past two weeks, prominent figures in the Georgia Meloni government visited the Abruzzo region and announced major investments there to avoid defeat, as happened in Sardinia, in which the far right lost by a margin of less than two thousand votes.

The Italian opposition parties, which are witnessing divisions, were facing difficulties in strengthening their position before the European elections next June.

The regional elections scheduled to be held in the Basilicata region in southern Italy next April will be a test for the opposition and the ruling right-wing coalition alike.

According to opinion polls, Meloni's party is ahead of other parties by a margin of up to 8 points.
