This past 2023, the

Community of Madrid

registered a total of 1,000 audiovisual projects filmed in its territory, 15% more than the previous year, according to the annual balance sheet carried out by Film Madrid, the regional Filming Promotion Office.

Figures that confirm the strength of the region in the audiovisual field, which year after year exceeds the number of projects it hosts.

Of these 1,000 productions, 119 were feature films, 117 shorts, 68 series, 473 advertisements and 317 television projects, reports, broadcasts or music videos.

Of the feature films, 80 were fiction films and 39 were documentaries.

Regarding the 117 shorts, 62 of them were fiction, 14 were documentaries, 35 were experimental and 6 were animated.

And as for the series, 62 were fiction and 6 were docuseries.

These numbers, according to the Community of Madrid, are the result of the regional government's commitment to protect, facilitate and encourage filming, given the great variety and versatility of locations, filming sets, animation studios and VFX (visual effects). that exist here.

All of these spaces make up a wide infrastructure network, in addition to a strong professional offer that brings together more than 3,000 companies in the audiovisual sector, 29% of Spain's volume, which generate employment for a high number of professionals.

The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports,

Mariano de Paco Serrano

, defends that "the audiovisual sector is strategic for the regional Government given its contribution to economic, social and cultural development, as well as its capacity to generate employment, promote innovation and contribute to the general well-being of society.

"This increase in filming produced in Madrid reflects the vitality and diversification of the sector," he adds.

Thus, a total of 54 Madrid municipalities have hosted some type of filming this past year.

It is the capital that accumulates the greatest volume (close to 70%), followed by Alcalá de Henares (with 27), Pozuelo de Alarcón (22), Villanueva de la Cañada (20), Alcorcón (20), Las Rozas ( 17), Alcobendas (15), Torrejón de Ardoz (8), Boadilla del Monte (5), Chapinería (4), Galapagar (4), Leganés (4) and Pinto (4).

The presence of filming throughout Madrid shows that the industry is not concentrated exclusively in the capital, but extends through various municipalities, something that has a beneficial impact on the economic and cultural development of the entire Community of Madrid.

It also highlights the wide range of attractive locations that the territory offers.

This can range from urban environments to natural landscapes, to historic and modern architecture, providing opportunities for a wide variety of film and television projects.
