Far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders said on Monday that he met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and pledged full support for Israel in what he called the fight against terrorism.

Wilders, who is considered a staunch supporter of Israel, is looking forward to leading a new government after the victory achieved by his nationalist party (the Freedom Party) in the elections that took place last November.

The Israeli President was in the Netherlands to attend the opening of a Holocaust museum in Amsterdam on Sunday.

At the opening ceremony, Herzog called for prayers for peace and the immediate release of Israeli detainees held by Hamas since Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

Wilders posted a photo on the X website of his meeting with Herzog and wrote, "I told him that I was proud of his visit to the Netherlands, and that Israel has and will always have my full support in its war on terrorism."

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which has so far led to the death of more than 30,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in addition to the destruction of infrastructure and the displacement and starvation of the population.

Many European countries reject Israel's demand for a ceasefire, even though they are witnessing large pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
