Orbán, Trump in Mar-a-Lago: “He has a very clear vision”

A lack of ammunition is currently putting Ukraine on the defensive on the battlefield - also because the Republican-dominated House of Representatives in the USA is not approving an aid package.

US intelligence coordinator Avril Haines said on Monday evening that it was "difficult to imagine" how Ukraine would hold the territory it had regained from aggressor Russia without help from the United States.

As far as the continued support of Ukraine by the USA is concerned, even in the event of Donald Trump's election victory, Viktor Orbán is now reporting something alarming.

Hungary's Prime Minister visited Trump at his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, at the weekend.

The former president told him that he would not spend "a penny" on the Ukraine war if he were re-elected.

Orbán said this on Sunday evening on the Hungarian television station M1, a day after the two met.

"He has a very clear vision that is difficult not to agree with," said Orban, whose sympathies for Russia's ruler Putin have repeatedly drawn criticism in the EU, continued. "He says the following: First of all, he is for the war between Ukraine and Russia won’t spend a penny.”

Orbán continued: “That is why the war will end, because it is obvious that Ukraine cannot stand on its own two feet (…).

If the Americans don't give money, the Europeans alone will not be able to finance this war.

And then the war will be over." Trump has "pretty detailed plans for how to end this war," Orbán added - but did not want to explain this in more detail when asked.

Trump's team initially left an inquiry from the AFP news agency about Orbán's statements unanswered.

Trump has not yet commented on the content of the talks with Orbán.

Called Trump a peacemaker

The day before, Orbán had already expressed his enthusiasm about the meeting with Trump.

»We need leaders in the world who are respected and can bring peace.

He is one of them!" he wrote on the platform and secure borders to protect the sovereignty of every nation.

Orbán said only Trump's return to the White House could bring peace in Ukraine.

Since the Russian army invaded Ukraine in 2022, Orbán has refused to provide arms aid to Kiev.

He last met Russian President Vladimir Putin in China in October, despite the European Union's efforts to isolate Moscow.
