At the National Two Sessions in 2024, from the suggestions and proposals of the Hong Kong and Macao representatives, we can feel that Hong Kong and Macao rely on the motherland and rely on the advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to proactively integrate into the overall development of the country and make positive contributions to the implementation of "one country, two systems".

Expand power source

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the release of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Greater Bay Area has become one of the most open and economically dynamic regions in China.

How to better play its role as a power source is a topic of concern to the Hong Kong and Macao representatives.

Yiu Zuhui, deputy to the National People's Congress in Hong Kong and chairman of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Association of Associations, said that Hong Kong has many world-class universities and research institutions. It should accelerate the integration of teaching and school-enterprise cooperation in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and promote the integration of industry, academia and research, so as to give full play to the role of the Greater Bay Area. The role of power source is to cultivate innovative talents and accelerate innovation in the science and technology industry.

On March 5, the second session of the 14th National People's Congress opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The Greater Bay Area is promoting the "hard connection" of infrastructure and the "soft connection" of rules and systems to expand the space for power sources to play a role.

The Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone is an important platform to help Macao integrate into the Greater Bay Area.

Wu Zhiliang, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Macau Foundation, pointed out that the convenient exchanges between the two places and the continuous improvement of the system of consultation, joint construction, joint management and sharing will attract more Macau professionals and enterprises to join the construction of the Shenzhen Cooperation Area and add vitality to the Greater Bay Area .

Explore new priorities

In recent years, the country has vigorously supported Hong Kong and Macao to better integrate into the overall development of the country.

The work report of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress pointed out that by strengthening legislation in the economic field, the professional role of practicing lawyers in Hong Kong and Macao has been further brought into play, and the infrastructure interconnection between Macao and the mainland has been strengthened; the "Two Highs" work report shows that judicial exchanges and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao have been continuously strengthened.

During the meeting, representatives from Hong Kong and Macao explored new priorities for integrating into the overall development of the country, and new productivity and carbon neutrality became high-frequency words.

"Accelerating the development of new productive forces is very forward-looking." Zhu Yeyuru, a member of the National People's Congress and president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, believes that Hong Kong can develop new productive forces according to local conditions in terms of source innovation, industrial innovation, talent innovation, etc., and compete with other cities in the Greater Bay Area. Complementary advantages and coordinated development promote the transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements.

The "Overall Development Plan for the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone" points out that carbon neutrality pilot demonstrations will be promoted.

Ye Zhaojia, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice President of Bank of China Macau Branch, suggested that we should seize the advantages of integration between Hengqin and Macau, make good use of Macau's close ties with Portuguese-speaking countries, give full play to Hengqin's role as a window for opening up, and promote the effective connection of financial resources and green projects. Promote the construction of the carbon market in the Greater Bay Area.

Go steady and go far

Practice has proved that ensuring the steady and long-term implementation of "one country, two systems" is in line with the fundamental interests of the country and the nation, as well as the fundamental interests of Hong Kong and Macao. It is feasible, achievable, and popular.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, and it is also Liu Yiliang's 25th year as a representative of the National People's Congress of Macao.

As the permanent president of the Macau Returned Overseas Chinese Association, he said that he will unite more overseas Chinese to strengthen the force of patriotism, love of Macao and support of "one country, two systems".

Gao Peixuan, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the board of directors of Hong Kong Yide Group, said that she will continue to be a good practitioner of "one country, two systems" in performing her duties and promote economic and trade cooperation, cultural integration, and people-to-people bonds between Hong Kong and the mainland.

Leung Mei-fun, deputy to the National People's Congress of Hong Kong and member of the SAR Legislative Council, expressed the hope that Hong Kong will make good use of the advantages of "one country, two systems" to attract international investors into the Greater Bay Area and help more mainland companies "go global."

She said, "This Pearl of the East must have the ambition to become the 'Pearl of the World'." (End)
